Coastal Retreats and the Environment
As a nation we are all increasingly being encouraged to be more environmentally aware. As a family, we have for many years put into practice our green philosophies at home through recycling, composting, conserving energy. And we do not feel that this, in any way, has to constitute a compromise to our taste for style, luxury and good design.
And as environmental awareness becomes a greater part of our everyday life, we feel it is only right to bring the green practices we adhere to at home, on holiday with us. As a company we endeavour to re-use, conserve and recycle as much as possible and encourage all of our employees and guests in however small a way to follow our philosophy. Specific areas include:
- Minimising office waste: Using email and computer to facilitate paperless systems, use scrap paper for notes, use refill ink cartridges.
- Supporting of local economy: For our cottages, we use local suppliers wherever possible - our cleaners, gardeners, caretakers and other support staff live locally and we promote local businesses such as independent food stores, retailers, transport, service providers and artists via our website and through literature in our cottages and have some discount arrangements in place for the benefit of our guests. See links section.
- Wildlife: Many of our cottages are in rural locations and we encourage all guests to discover, enjoy and respect the local wildlife and natural habitats by pointing out areas of interest and leaving books, binoculars and literature to inform and advise our guests.
- Waste: We make it as easy as possible for holiday guests to understand the local system of recycling providing a detailed outline of what can and cannot be recycled. We provide a bin to place glass for recycling which we take ourselves to the bottle bank should our guests not have time. The drainage for almost all of our properties, feeds into a water treatment plant - a most environmentally friendly way of dealing with household effluent
- Energy: When replacing any electrical items we always look for A energy ratings to minimise consumption. All our light bulbs are energy efficient where practical.
- Water: Our washing machines and dishwashers are similarly chosen for low water consumption and all of our toilets are to modern minimum flush standards
- Constant monitoring: We are always looking for new ways to improve every aspect of our business and systems and this includes a willingness to adopt an increasing number of environmentally sound practices with the aim of both bolstering efficiencies and maintaining our global responsibilities.
