This hamlet is a real gem. Set back ¼ mile from the main road from Beadnell to Newton-by-the-sea, the 18th century stone former farm buildings of this organic coastal farm have been carefully restored and renovated over the last year. The result is a characterful collection of holiday properties of varying sizes, with sweeping countryside views, yet only minutes from some of Northumberland’s most stunning beaches. The nearest pubs are the Ship Inn at Newton by-the-Sea (about 5 mins drive) or the Craster Arms in Beadnell (about 5 mins drive in the opposite direction). Seahouses is just a 3 mile drive away. This is where you will find the nearest supermarket, deli, fish and chip shops, grocers, bakers, post office, Barclays Bank, the Ocean Club and other facilities.

Down a country lane, with no through traffic, the cottages are ideally placed for those wanting to soak up the tranquillity of the countryside with the hamlet making an ideal safe haven for children. Most of our properties have there own private gardens: Moo House, even has its own private games room – the Cow Shed. All properties can take advantage of communal grassy areas and the multitude of walks available from the doorstep.
Each of the properties here has its own character, reflecting the styles of the individual owners, but all bear the Coastal Retreats 5 star trademark offering sumptuous furnishings, stylish interiors and all the facilities you would expect from our premium cottage collection plus some extras which perhaps you wouldn’t!

Moo House (with the Cow Shed) sleeps 10, The Granary, next door, sleeps 8 and next door again, is our newest property The Hemmel, sleeping 5, which opened in 2007. Garden Cottage is a few yards away and will sleep 4 adults and 2 children perfectly and then there is Glebe Cottage, our only 2 bedroom property at Tughall which is proving popular with couples and small families, but can still accommodate 4/5 in 2 bedrooms. The Studio is our couples retreat with just one bedroom. Any of these cottages can be booked together to accommodate large groups of up to 35 plus cots.
The arrangement at Tughall Steads has attracted a variety of guests so far - we have welcomed family reunion parties, small personalised business conferences, a wedding and several girls’ ‘pamper weekends’ where guests have taken advantage of our free guest membership to the nearby Ocean Leisure Club. Nook End and Driftwood, if booked together will accommodate up to 10/12 guests.The games room here has a full size table tennis table and table football along with large gardens and a 12ft trampoline!
We have three properties in Seahouses, within steps of each other. They will each sleep 6. If all three are booked together, then parties and families of 19 can be accommodated. These cottages are Seafarer's, the Plaice and the Fisherman's Retreat.
In Beadnell village, we have the popular Mariner's which will sleep up to 6 in 3 bedrooms and just along the road, you'll find our new cottage, Smugglers' Hide, which opened in February 2008. This will sleep 4/5 guests in 2 bedrooms. This may be a perfect solution for two families wishing to holiday together, but who also want a degree of privacy and space!
If you are organising a group holiday then let us help you plan your trip. We can make suggestions on itinerary, book a private chef for your own private dinner party, make restaurant reservations, order bouquets of flowers and champagne, organise birthday cakes, organise a traditional Northumbrian dance band with caller, book a round of golf or hire a bouncy castle for your garden! We can organise babysitters, book some beauty treatments and even hire an artist for a day to give you some special one to one art tuition!
