Shirewater – Directions from A1
From the south (distance – 6.7 miles)

Take the second Alnwick turning signposted Seahouses, Alnwick and Denwick, also Alnwick Gardens. (NOT the A1068 exit)
Turn right towards Denwick. Follow this road (B1340) for about 2 miles.
Take a turning on the right – brown sign to Dunstanburgh Castle (also signed to Craster).
Almost immediately go left – again following the Dunstanburgh Castle sign.
Follow this road for 1.3 miles, over the level crossing.
At the staggered crossroads go straight over (following brown Dunstanburgh Castle sign).
You will come to another crossroads after about 1.5 miles. Turn left, signposted Seahouses and Embleton.
Follow this road for about 2 miles.
When you see a red-roofed cottage as the road bears right, look out for a SLOW sign marked on the road.
Slow down! The turning for Shirewater is on the right.
Go down the pink gravelled drive right to the end.
If you get into Embleton village you have gone too far.


From the North (distance 5.5 miles)

Take the B6347 signposted Christon Bank and Seahouses.
After 1.8 miles turn right, signposted Seahouses, Christon Bank and Embleton (continuing B6347).
Go through Christon Bank, over the level crossing and straight on.
Half a mile after the level crossing, turn right, signposted Embleton and Craster.
In Embleton, turn right at the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel crossroads, then first left signposted Craster and Howick.
Follow this road as it verges right and out of Embleton.
Do not take the road to the left signposted Dunstan Steads.
Shortly after this turning notice SLOW marked on the road.
Slow down! The turning for Shirewater is on the left.
Go down the pink gravelled drive right to the end.
If you pass Spitalford Cemetery on the right you have gone too far.
