Driftwood adjoins Nook End and has the same layout and facilities. Like Nook End it is ideal for young families, couples and groups. With it’s light and airy feel and lots of nautical touches, you get a real sense of staying by the sea. Cream, linen, soft blues are used to great effect and the soft furnishings complement the space and furniture beautifully. Driftwood has a 5 star grading by VisitBritain 2011
Shaker style kitchen with granite work tops, cream enamel log burner, painted furniture, timber beams, comfy sofas, pocket sprung mattresses, natural carpeting and some interesting contemporary canvases by Bill Hindmarsh, Alan Smith Page and Mick Oxley, help create a wonderful seaside home.
On two levels, the cottage is deceptively large. Built in stone, it was designed and built on the site of four derelict farm cottages. Since then, it has been completely refurbished by Fiona and Roger and has been fully booked since, proving to be a very popular cottage, particularly with couples and small families. Also popular with larger families who book Driftwood along with adjoining Nook end, for a large family holiday or with friends. Together they will accommodate up to 10/12 guests

The enclosed rear garden, accessed from the hallway, has a patio with tables and chairs. This catches the afternoon sun and is a lovely quiet spot for afternoon tea.
The front garden is enclosed, gravelled and has seating to enjoy the morning sun.
Driftwood and Nook end share a huge additional lawn and garden which is ideal for children. There is a children's play area with play cabin, sandpit, swings and baby swing and rocker suitable for young toddlers. The shared barbeque space is here too with tables, chairs and chimineas. With views towards Bamburgh Castle (which is illuminated by night), this is a wonderful spot to enjoy an evening bottle of wine. The chimineas are quite effective in keeping off the chill and we have plenty of logs to keep them burning.
The games room has a full size table tennis table as well as table football and is enjoyed by young and old! It is useful in wet weather (although not heated) and also as a place for children to play whilst the adults are perhaps doing other things!!
Children at Driftwood
The five starfish rating says it all. children will love the space, the swings, the trampoline, the games room.....

Coastal Retreats Candid Comments (Giving you the only down sides we can think of about a property before you book!)
The shower room is on the ground floor with the small bathroom upstairs. This is in the eaves so our taller guests may bang their head a couple of times. The large shared garden and games room exclusively for Nook end and Driftwood, is located across the service drive from the cottages, so not ideal for unsupervised toddlers. Vehicles do use the road so toddlers need a lesson in road safety. Ideal for older children as they can make their noise away from the cottages. Each cottage does have its own private garden just off the living room which is lovely for younger children. The games room is unheated so you will need warm clothes in the winter. You'll soon warm up after a game of table tennis

'Driftwood was beautifully presented and spotless - it was lovely to arrive at such a great property. So often self catering properties are not as nice as their description, but Driftwood was even better than we were hoping for! We'll definitely be recommending to our friends!'
'Your service is superb -feels personal and top quality. Great website and brochure - impossible to resist!'
'Excellent value for money. It is out of the question that we would come back to Northumberland and stay anywhere other than a Coastal Retreat cottage. Driftwood was the best cottage we have ever used (in 20 years of self catering). The presentation of the cottage was excellent. All the touches such as books, picnicware, children's toys etc lift the self catering experience out of the ordinary. Driftwood was really comfortable - big squashy sofas, comfy beds etc. We'll be in touch to book our next holiday!'
'Everything was fantastic - we had an amazing week. Driftwood was brilliant and all the toys and everything that you left for the children were great, including the Easter Egg!! - I didnt think we would ever get our little boy off your trampoline!!! My Mum and I were most grateful for the bottle of fizz - it really revived us after a busy day at Alnwick Castle with the children.
I am sure that we will be back again in the future - thanks for everything - we couldnt have asked for more....' Alison Westwood
