Adjoining  our other properties, The Granary and High Mill, this cottage retains so much of the character of the original farm steading, with its huge original roof trusses and hemmel arches which have been carefully blended in to the conversion design. Here, rustic architecture sits comfortably next to contemporary but cosy style. Add to this, a splendid professionally designed garden with gazebo and patio area and the context of this peaceful farm hamlet, and this makes The Hemmel a wonderful holiday retreat. It is especially popular with couples and has been booked by several honeymooners and couples celebrating special wedding anniversaries.

We have recently made a few improvements to the Hemmel including the addition of a new large flat screen TV, children's play equipment including timber swings and a summer house. Bunk beds are now in situe in the single bedroom to enable the Hemmel to accommodate 5/6 guests more comfortably.

Recommendations

The Hemmel is especially suitable for couples and those with a small family. Ideal for garden lovers. Also a perfect cottage when used in conjunction with one of our larger cottages at Tughall. Ideal for newly wed couples, the Hemmel has already played host to several honeymoons!

Coastal Retreats Candid Comments (Giving you the only down sides we can think of about a property before you book!)

The second double bedroom is small and the double bed is pushed up against the wall. Visit Britain won't allow us to promote this room as a proper double room for two although is does actually sleep 2
The 'log burner' is run off bottled gas. If the gas bottle empties then the fire goes out! Not always convenient at night in the dark or rain!

'I stayed at The Hemmel this weekend.  It was booked about 18 months ago as a secret surprise for a friends 40th birthday.  We arrived in the dark on Thursday to find Christmas tree lights twinkling in the lounge as we pulled on to the drive, it looked lovely and was even better as we went in.  We stay regularly in a cottage in the Lake District which is lovely and so we tend to use it as a yardstick to measure other cottages against.  The Hemmel surpassed even this! As keen gardeners we really appreciated the outdoor space and can see ourselves there with a BBQ and a glass of wine! Thank you so much for remembering to keep all communication with me to my business address so the secret didn't get discovered, and we will definitely be back for another stay.

' We loved the garden here. Large, private, enclosed and ideal for open air breakfasts and evening barbeques'

'We had a superb time at the Hemmel. The exceptional quality of all your accommodation and the real homeliness of each property made it a truly memorable week. The wedding was a huge success, and obviously the high point, but being so comfortable and relaxed at Tughall Steads made it very, very special. Thank you'

' The Hemmel surpassed our expectations and felt immediately at home here. The children settled in quickly and made friends with the children staying at the Granary next door. We loved the peace and tranquilty here and by the end of the week felt really relaxed and ready to face the vigours of work again!'

'10/10 for the Hemmel. We've booked again for next Autumn'

'Loved some of the furniture. Where did you get the fab bedroom furniture in the main bedroom? Loved the framed Cow photos upstairs and the local artwork in the lounge'

'This is our 4th visit to the Hemmel over the years and it gets better and better. Our children think this is their second home'
