Just a mile from Beadnell beach and close to the fishing village of Seahouses, this stone built 5 star graded cottage provides a first class retreat. Situated in the small hamlet of Swinhoe, on the outskirts of Beadnell, it is handy for all the best beaches and the villages of Beadnell, Seahouses, Newton and Craster. Only 15 minutes drive to Alnwick Gardens and less than 10 mins drive to Bamburgh Castle
With superb open views of the sea and Bamburgh Castle, the gardens, games room and children’s play area make it a popular choice with discerning families. Personally owned by us, this was our first holiday cottage and is one of our most popular in the collection. We have some regular guests who have had three or four holidays at Nook End!
We have recently refurbished the kitchen in this cottage with simple off white Shaker style units, granite worktops and a new Smeg fridge freezer. We've put new patio doors in the lounge to give more connection from the house to the garden and built a timber deck from the lounge. The icing on the cake is the new Garden Pod seen in the images. This creates a wonderful place to sit in the garden -use it like a summer house, an escape from it all or a place to have your afternoon tea. It rotates so you can position it to suit the sun direction or the view - watch the children playing on the swings or watch the sunsetting over Bamburgh Castle.
We suggest you take a look at the 360 degree Video Tour of Nook End on our Virtual Tours page

Location
Swinhoe is very close to the coast - you can see the sea from the cottage and the garden. It is about a mile from Beadnell beach and the village. Seahouses is approx 2 miles away. All the best beaches of Northumberland are within very easy access - Bamburgh, Seahouses, Newton, Embleton, Beadnell and are the popular villages of Craster, Warkworth and Alnmouth. For more information on the location, see Directions/Map
Coastal Retreats Candid Comments (Giving you the only down sides we can think of about a property before you book!)
The shower room is on the ground floor with the small bathroom upstairs. This is in the eaves so our taller guests may bang their head a couple of times.
The large shared garden and games room exclusively for Nook End, Driftwood and Seasalt, is located across the service drive from the cottages, so not ideal for unsupervised toddlers. Vehicles do use the road so toddlers need a lesson in road safety. Ideal for older children as they can make their noise away from the cottages. Each cottage does have its own private garden just off the living room which is lovely for younger children
.
The games room is unheated so you will need warm clothes in the winter. You'll soon warm up after a game of table tennis

"... we pulled into the drive of our glorious home-away-from-home, Nook End . I cannot explain how wonderful this house was. It was gorgeously furnished, immaculately clean, completely kitted out, well insulated, and spacious (and space isn't easy to find in the UK). We made a roaring fire every evening. We cooked dinner all seven nights at Nook End and enjoyed every minute of it. We did a dozen loads of laundry. Our host provided a welcome basket with milk, eggs, bread, butter, tea, coffee, and bubbly -- all locally made. It even had a Christmas tree. But best of all, it was positively loaded with toys, dress-up clothes, books, travel cots, high chairs, etc for our girls. So many hotels/apartments/cottages in Europe claim to be child-friendly, and few rarely are. If you are ever -- and I mean EVER -- considering a trip to the coast, please book through Coastal Retreats. "

'Just wanted to send a quick email to say that we had a wonderful weekend staying at Nook End & Driftwood. The cottages were beautifully decorated & very well equipped. Your recommendations were much appreciated - our day at the spa was wonderfully relaxing and the dinner party provided by

Fresh Element was a wonderful start to the (rather tame!) hen night. Everyone in the party was very impressed with the cottages & several of them said that they would come back with families so hopefully you might get some repeat bookings - I for one am going to convince my husband that we need a week away some time soon!'
'Nook End is beautiful. My parents came to stay with us for a couple of days and they were amazed at the standard of decor and facilities - they can now see why we love staying here!'
'Just wanted to send some "post-break-praise" - for our 4th consecutive year with you (we think) - for what you do up there in Northumberland - we are so blissed out!! What a time! The weather was wonderful, the tides so high that lots of seals had come onto the beaches & estuaries for a rest and the cottages just so cosy and comfortable (and the wonderful apple tart & champage were true birthday treats for Richard and Mark - thankyou)! We have such a special time that we always ask ourselves why we don't come up more often. We will certainly want to come back to you same time next year'
' We've stayed in four Coastal Retreats now and will find it difficult to choose where to stay next time, as they are all so beautiful and comfortable. We love the interior decor at Nook End and we have used the gardens and the games room all week. This has been a huge part of the holiday and have really enjoyed lighting the outdoor heater in the evenings and eating supper outside within site of the illuminated Bamburgh Castle. We'll be back later in the year for a winter weekend '
'Wow! The pod! Where did you get that?'
