Children at Craster Rocks![]()

Attaining our own 4 starfish rating, Craster Rocks is very child-friendly. We can provide all the usual array of baby equipment and the garden to the rear of the property has a few pieces of toddler play equipment. The rocks closeby make a great rock pooling paradise (with adult supervision)

Location and Locality
In the enviable location of being right at the entrance to Dunstanburgh Castle where a private gate takes National Trust visitors along the 1/2 mile or so path to the ruin itself. All this, just metres from the sea and the rockpools. A 5 minute walk will take you into the village of Craster with the Jolly Fisherman pub, the Mick Oxley art gallery, Shoreline cafe (lovely homemade cake and frothy cappuccinos) and the famous kipper smoke house.
Recommendations
Anyone who wants to spend their holiday watching the sea and the horizon will love this property but its appeal will be mainly to a family, 2 couples holidaying together or a group of adults.
Remember to bring your National Trust or English Heritage card for free entry into Dunstanborough Castle and grounds

Talk about makeovers. This modest, semi-detached seafront house has had the works. Huge windows look out onto the water, and the whole of the ground floor is open-plan. Leather sofas, reclaimed wooden floors and a wood-burning stove all add to the effect.

'The Northumberland coast is simply stunning with great sweeps of butter-coloured sand beaches like Alnmouth and Beadnell and historic castles including Alnwick and its wonderful gardens, Bamburgh, Dunstanborough and Warkworth. Hop on a Billy Shiels boat trip at Seahouses and you’ll be watching seals and puffins at the wonderful Farne Islands within the hour. Coastal Retreats (0191 285 1272, www.coastalretreats.co.uk) has a wide range of chi-chi self-catering family properties. One of the latest is Craster Rocks in the tiny harbour village of Craster, famous for its kippers (available from L. Robson & Sons Ltd – the local smokery). This three-bedroom house is located at the start of a National Trust path that leads to Dunstanborough Castle (a beautiful sea view walk with rock pools to explore) and overlooks the North Sea. An average semi-detached house from the outside, inside it’s impressively modern with artwork by local artist, Mick Oxley and super child friendly with toys in every cubbyhole from fuzzy felt to dressing up clothes. Children will love their seaside-themed twin room. There’s a garden at the back with a great toddler house and climbing frame' Jane Anderson, journalist Junior magazine
'Amazing cottage!' Everyone who walks past here stops and looks at the cottage - you can tell they all wish they were staying here!
'We had a wonderful weekend in Craster Rocks thank you so much - as always you do it ALL so well and this time to be so close to the sea was truly magical - we barely got in the car all weekend. Needless to say we'll be doing the same thing this time next year'
'Just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful stay at Craster Rocks - it was the perfect honeymoon!! Everything about it was fantastic and we wish we could have spent longer there - and as far as we're concerned, our time there was better than anything that a honeymoon in Dubai, Mauritius or the Maldives could have offered!
We definitely plan on coming back again next year - perhaps with a few friends and have recommended your website to others too'
'This is our 3rd holiday in Craster with Coastal Retreats. We have one more to try but think Craster Rocks is the best so far. We loved the location, the uncluttered styling, the decent size TV and the lovely welcome touches offered by Coastal Retreats. We recommend Coastal Retreats all the time and wouldn't dream of using another company for our annual Northumberland trip. Wish you offered cottages in other parts of the country because we have been let down so many times with other cottage agencies. Well done to all of you in the Coastal Retreats team'
