The Plaice was featured in House Beautiful and was recently shown on UKTV STYLE channel in Fantasy Homes by the Sea

The Plaice occupies arguably the most enviable location in Seahouses. With two en-suite bedrooms and further double bedroom (which is a small double), all sumptuously furnished and one with its own balcony, its first floor living accommodation looks directly over the bustling harbour and the sea beyond. This architect designed reworking of a traditional fisherman’s cottage uses glass and chrome to give light and airy modern styling to this prime holiday property. The open plan kitchen/living/dining area opens out on to a glass balcony from where you can watch the fishermen bring in their catches. All this is just a stone’s throw from the centre of the village and all the facilities it offers.

The Plaice has just received a commendation for a Design Award organised and judged by the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty!! These are some of their comments........

`This is a wonderful example of how to sensitively redevelop a terraced house within a conservation area. The result is a building which fits perfectly with its surroundings and sets a standard for others to follow. It is especially pleasing to see the use of good quality traditional materials and simple contemporary design. This must be a great place to stay. Subject to the agreement of interested parties this project would make a good case study for the Northumberland Coast ANOB Design Guide'

The Plaice has received a 5 star grade by VisitBritain 2008. The Plaice can comfortably sleep up to 5 guests but we feel the living space is more suited to groups of 4.

Recommendations

Families with older children or babies, couples and small groups. Ideal for sea lovers, walkers, bird watchers and those wanting a luxury seaside holiday base where many of the main attractions are within walking distance (The boats for the Farne Islands set sail from the harbour just below the balcony of the Plaice!)

Guest comments

''Thank-you very much for organising our stay at the Plaice  - we all had a fantastic time and would definately consider returning, as well as telling our friends.  I would strongly recommend the Ocean club as we all thought the treatments were fantastic and very reasonably priced.  The cottage truely was of a 5 star standard and all the finishing touches really made it very special.  We visited Alnwick Castle and gardens, the Old Ship Inn which had delicious soup and bread, followed by a walk along the beach and finally Barter Books which was a lovely end to our visit.'.'..Anne Marie Audley and friends

''We visited 'The Plaice' last September for a wedding and had a great few days.
This summer we went to Wales (thought the travelling would be easier even though we thought your properties were the best ever...) 'and it was a
disaster.  Every plate chipped, not enough seating space for the 8 guests, VERY expensive and not very clean at all.  We have come home feeling ripped off with our expectations shattered, the yawning gap between expectation and reality has made us very disillusioned.
So, we are returning to the fold and have booked The Mariner's for next summer.  We have never stayed anywhere like a Coastal Retreats property and staying somewhere else has reminded me of what a good job you do!
Looking forward to next summer already!''

'Just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at The Plaice last week.
The weather was really kind to us so we were able to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the views every day.  It was great to watch the Farne Island boats and fishing boats and there were lovely eider duck chicks in the harbour to enjoy. The accommodation lived up to our expectations.  We very much liked the open aspect to the upstairs living accommodation and the roof windows made it so light - it was really lovely. Obviously the furnishings are to a very high standard and the settees and bed have to be the most comfortable we have ever had in a holiday cottage. We did the walk to Footballers Cove and were the only ones there at the time (highly recommended).  Also looked up the two new additions to your collection at Craster.' Gillian Bowron, June 2008
