The Plaice was featured in
House Beautiful
and was shown on UKTV STYLE channel in Fantasy Homes by the Sea
The Plaice occupies arguably the most enviable location in Seahouses. With two en-suite bedrooms and further double bedroom (which is a small double), all appropriately furnished and one with its own balcony, its first floor living accommodation looks directly over the bustling harbour and the sea beyond. This architect designed reworking of a traditional fisherman’s cottage uses glass and chrome to give light and airy modern styling to this prime holiday property. The open plan kitchen/living/dining area opens out on to a glass balcony from where you can watch the fishermen bring in their catches. All this is just a stone’s throw from the centre of the village and all the facilities it offers.
The Plaice received a commendation for a Design Award organised and judged by the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. These are some of their comments........
`This is a wonderful example of how to sensitively redevelop a terraced house within a conservation area. The result is a building which fits perfectly with its surroundings and sets a standard for others to follow. It is especially pleasing to see the use of good quality traditional materials and simple contemporary design. This must be a great place to stay. Subject to the agreement of interested parties this project would make a good case study for the Northumberland Coast ANOB Design Guide'
The Plaice has received a 5 star grade by VisitBritain 2011 The Plaice can comfortably sleep up to 5 guests

Children are welcome but there are no special facilities and no private outdoor space more suited to younger children. A travel cot and high chair are available on request
Location and Locality
Prime seafront location just steps away from our other property The Look Out. Very central within Seahouses for all amenities including the Ocean Leisure Club. This photo shows the view of the harbour from The Plaice in the wintry weather 2010.
Recommendations
Families with older children or babies, couples and small groups. Ideal for sea lovers, walkers, bird watchers and those wanting a luxury seaside holiday base where many of the main attractions are within walking distance (The boats for the Farne Islands set sail from the harbour just below the balcony of the Plaice!)
Coastal Retreats Candid Comments (Giving you the only down sides we can think of about a property before you book!)
A compact but cleverly designed property. At full capacity, the living space is a little cramped so we market it for 5 rather than 6. No log fire, just the harbour view.
Mobile reception is almost impossible at The Plaice and in Seahouses in general. The T mobile network works best

'Just returned from a superb week in the best self-catering holiday cottage we have ever stayed at. Beautiful coast and a wonderful setting, but you have appointed the cottage perfectly.
'We had such a fantastic two weeks at The Plaice, what a
place to stay. The views are just lovely and being able to watch the
activities of the harbour was fascinating. The Plaice was excellent
and so well equipped with everything we needed, we have been truly
spoilt now!'
'
Just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at The Plaice last week
The weather was really kind to us so we were able to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the views every day.
It was great to watch the
'Our stay in the cottage at Seahouses was perfect our American friends thought that it outshone any cottage or house on the coast of California. They also said that if the Americans back home ever found out about the coast of Northumbria it would be invaded by them. They were indeed very impressed with all the facilities, we wanted for nothing.
I too was very impressed with the quality of the cottage, we do often go into rentals in this country and will certainly visit you again
Many thanks.
I forgot to complete the survey you left, but we all agreed it was indeed an excellent cottage with first class facilities.
Our friends will return home to the USA with memorable moments of the time they spent in seahouses at coastal retreats.'
