Whatever anyone says, we believe that there’s nothing wrong with wanting the best of both worlds.

When it comes to choosing our holiday that’s exactly what we want. As a couple with professional design backgrounds, we were always drawn to boutique hotels or stylish country houses. When our children came along, our needs changed but our tastes didn’t. We didn’t want to forsake our holidays in well-designed luxury accommodation but the best places to stay in weren’t always so accommodating to our children !

And so, Coastal Retreats was born.

We bought our first cottage in 2000 and styled it for our own family needs. We found that designer fabrics could quite happily sit next to a toddler’s tricycle and the bespoke kitchen looked no less appealing with a steriliser and highchair. When we began to rent our newly furnished luxury cottage to holiday makers, the guest comments showed that we weren’t the only ones to feel the need for something different.

The collection has now grown to include a range of luxury cottages and properties such as renovated fisherman’s cottages, coastal barn conversions, boutique harbourside apartments in Seahouses and a penthouse apartment with views to satisfy the most ardent of birdwatchers – all with the unique appeal of our interior design. And now, with a score of hand-picked coastal properties in the portfolio, we feel that we can cater for all needs - families, groups, couples - and still maintain our 5 star standards of individual style, attention to detail and personal service.

We endeavour to create interiors which compliment exteriors, we work with a building's natural features and the result is a calm, relaxing and cosy environment in which our guest can luxuriate creating the ideal luxury coastal cottage experience. Working more and more now with interior designers Bernhart Interiors , Jo Tattersall Interiors and other designers, we can offer a full design and styling service to our current and new cottage owners to create the ultimate Coastal Retreat

We also offer an interior design/house restyling/holiday cottage consultancy service working with clients in and around Northumberland.
