Sports Activities
Whether you are looking for some adventure with a spot of kitesurfing or stand-up paddle boarding, or just want to take a relaxing bike ride along the Northumberland coastal route, let us help you organise the right sporting activity for your holiday.
Watersports
Beadnell Bay and Bamburgh beach are great spots for watersports and there you can enjoy kitesurfing, coasteering, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing and sea kayaking. Try Kevin Anderson for lessons and equipment hire.
Cycling
From family-friendly routes to off-road trails, Northumberland is a fantastic place to explore by bike. There are several long distance trails that you can also cycle including: Hadrian’s Cycleway, The Coast & Castles, Pennine Cycleway, and the UK’s most popular route, the Sea to Sea (C2C). To help you plan your routes and find bike hire places near your Retreat, visit Cycle Pad.
Horseriding
What better way to enjoy the Northumberland coast and countryside with a horseback ride along Bamburgh beach or a trek through the Cheviot Hills. For beach rides try Slate Hall Riding Centre and Kimmerston Riding Centre for both coast and country rides.
Running
The North East is most famous for the Great North Run in Newcastle, which many of our guests have taken part in and then combined with a holiday in Northumberland. For dedicated runners there are also numerous 10k, half and full marathons which take in the castles, coastline and landscape of the county. See Run Nation or Endurance Life for more details. Outside of challenge events, guests looking to take in a run while they are holidaying can head to Beadnell Bay where there is a group of informal runners which meet every Saturday morning in the beach car park at 9am. See the Beadnell Beach Run Facebook page for information. Or the Seahouses Striders running club meets on Monday evening at 6pm outside of Physicality in Main Street, North Sunderland.
