Logburner at The Old Paper MIll

Embrace the Danish way of life this Autumn with a spot of Hygge at one of our cottages. Don’t know what Hygge is? Well, it is essentially being kind to yourself, getting together with friends and family, lighting a fire, sharing good food or just having some quiet time on your own with a book. The important thing is to be cosy, and with this selection of cottages – all with log burners or a real fire – you will be left reaching for a blanket and a book in no time.

Old Ale House living room with fire

1. The Old Ale House

You’ll be able to enjoy some serious Hygge at this cosy cottage. Envelope yourself in warmth from the fire and light from the candles in the lounge area of this two bedroom characterful, former ale house in Craster. Stoke up the log burner and reap its warmth whether you are relaxing, cooking or entertaining.  If you do venture out, the nearby Craster coastline is great for a stroll followed by a warm drink at the Shoreline Cafe.

Hot Cross Buns at Tweedswood

2. Tweedswood

Our Borders cottage – Tweedswood – is an ideal place for an autumn break. Some inspiring wild autumnal walks can be enjoyed in and around the River Tweed – certainly a fantastic spot for those who love the outdoors whatever the weather. Situated near Melrose and sleeping up to four people, elements of both Tweedswood’s 200-year history and its 2013 refurbishment are reflected in its interior features – a fusion of old and new. Note the log burner, housed in a contemporary fireplace with a slate hearth. Relax on the Loaf sofas and deep window seats in the truly peaceful surroundings.

Harbour Master's House lounge

3. Harbour Master’s House

The only one of our cottages with an open fire, three-bedroomed Harbour Master’s House has stood the test of time. Watch the drama of the seas from this former salt and fish store of the nearby smokery and if the weather is kind enough, enjoy the autumn sun set over Dunstanburgh Castle from the outside deck. The addition of underfloor heating for rooms with tiled flooring and the adjacent Jolly Fisherman pub means all your comforts are taken care of.
