Our Couples Retreats
Big on style, our couples cottages have all the warmth and comfort of a hotel stay but with more space and privacy to relax. Situated near great restaurants and beaches or located in the heart of the countryside, many have log burners to cosy up next to, use of a private pool and spa, exquisite bedrooms and a sprinkling of old-fashioned romance.
Couples Cottages to impress
A dazzling view of Bamburgh Castle from the lounge and dining room is the attraction at the decadent Bamburgh Five in the centre of Bamburgh village. The beach is a short walk away, where we can guarantee you will never tire of the view of the coastline with the castle as its backdrop. Some of the region’s best restaurants are just a short walk away, among them The Mizen Head and The Potted Lobster, both famed for their seafood, and a good selection of gastro pubs. Or there’s Skyfall. Named not after the James Bond movie of the same name, but for the amazing night skies, spectacular countryside views and sunsets from the balcony. With the lounge, dining and kitchen areas all on the first floor of the house, you are never too far from a jaw-dropping vista.
Stylish Couples Retreats
Every detail has been carefully considered at The Arch from the luxurious soft fabrics to the high end furnishings. Lovingly designed by its owners, they have taken every care to preserve its characterful features while accentuating its coastal style through calming blue and white tones throughout. Add in the view of the romantic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle and the Craster coastline and this is a perfect Retreat for couples to escape to.
The Lodge@Shirewater is an independent wing of an early 20th century country house surrounded by five acres of woodland, river and orchard and just 15 minutes from one of Northumberland’s best beaches, Embleton. Privacy and seclusion are guaranteed here. Another couples cottage where you can truly escape, is The Old Paper Mill. Approached via a woodland track, this 250 year old stone mill renovation, is where you can enjoy the simple pleasures in life; sitting by the wood burning stove with a book, taking a walk through the surrounding Derwent Valley, or indulging in peaceful lie-ins. Rustic single-storey studio cottage, The Forge is as cosy as they come. Its log burner is just steps from the bed, if you don’t fancy emerging from the covers.
Tweedswood scores top marks for history, romance and for its backdrop of rolling country hills. This intimate 200-year-old cottage near the Border town of Melrose feels like a warm hug on a rainy day. Here, you’ll find White Company bed linens and rich-coloured throws from local mills, soft Loaf sofas, a log burner and cosy window seats. In contrast, Rosebud is a bright, contemporary Retreat that lies close to the Northumberland National Park and is far removed from the tourist trail. Think amazing starry night skies and all the peace and quiet you could wish for.
Couples cottages with sea views
The Alnmouth Boathouse is a couple’s hideaway in the heart of Alnmouth village just steps from the sea and beach, an excellent deli, restaurants and shops. Sea views abound from the living room with its floor to ceiling windows where you can relax in the luxury of your surroundings. Craster Waves is also situated within a village, close by to Craster’s gastro pub and seafood restaurant. But the main draw here is its direct sea views from the first floor living area and balcony.
