With just two weeks to go until May half term holiday, and the arrival of sunnier and warmer weather, there is no better time to book a last minute UK break.
Be inspired by our selection of remaining holiday cottages in Northumberland for either a week or three or four-night stay.
Visit Bamburgh Castle on May 29 and 30 for some historical re-enaction at the castle’s Vikings event. There will be a tented camp, demonstrations and talks. Head down to the beach below the castle’s ramparts to enjoy views out to Holy Island afterwards, or walk the coastal path to Seahouses.
Stay at Bamburgh Five which has some unparalleled views of Bamburgh Castle from its hard to beat village location – close to the shops, restaurants and beach. The interior is elegant with tasteful furnishings which blend beautifully in this Edwardian building. Sleeping four, this apartment has two bath/shower rooms, a patio and communal garden.
Visit The Alnwick Garden and Castle which has a whole host of events to entertain the entire family. At the gardens’ woodland walk there is tree climbing from May 28-30 beneath its iconic treehouse (worth visiting in itself for its rope bridges and restaurant built into the branches) or head over to the castle where parts of Harry Potter were filmed and meet some characters from the books.
Stay at The Well House – a beautifully renovated period cottage, sleeping six and perfect for families. This cottage has a decent-sized garden, a great children’s room and a log burner for cooler nights. At also just a short drive from Newton and Beadnell beaches, it makes an ideal base for exploring the area.
Visit Amble for its annual Puffin Festival (May 28-June 4) where you will have the chance to see these brightly-coloured seabirds as they care for their newly-hatched pufflings on Coquet Island. There will also be surfing taster sessions with Northside Surf School, a fishing competition, arts and crafts and falconry displays, plus much more.
Stay at Quayside overlooking Amble marina and Coquet Island (just a short boat trip away). This contemporary apartment sleeps four and is part of an exciting new development around the harbour and marina. The open plan living area leading out onto the balcony is great for entertaining and relaxing and you are just metres from some fabulous restaurants and artisan shops.
