In a prime position overlooking the waters of Budle Bay, just slightly north of Bamburgh, Miller’s Loft has lovely coastal views towards Holy Island through its quirky low level windows. Dating back to the 18th century, this high-living third floor apartment was part of the former Waren flour mill, and more recently the producer of malt for the brewing industry. Full of contrasts, antique rugs and furniture are nostalgic nods to its past while a contemporary kitchen, a large walk-in shower and Alexa smart speakers, in the bedrooms and living space, place it firmly in the present.
The beautiful Budle Bay, where ships once crossed to reach Waren Mill taking its produce across the seas to places as far away as Cuba, is now home to an abundance of wildlife which can be observed from the windows of Miller’s Loft or from the dunes above the bay at Budle Point. Part of the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve, the Bay’s huge mud flats are exposed at low tide, home to thousands of wildfowl and waders.
Enjoy walks from Miller’s Loft along the coast. The route south to Bamburgh is particularly impressive. Head along the main road until you see a track leading down to the beach at Budle Point, where you can pick up the walk, talking in views of Bamburgh Castle and The Farne Islands as you head south.
Kitesurfing, windsurfing and jet skiing are all permitted at Budle Bay between April and October in a special watersports zone so as not to disturb the migratory birds. See our watersports section for suggested hire companies.
Miller’s Loft invites you to kick off your shoes, sink into its leather sofa and enjoy watching the ebb and flow of the tide from its low-level windows. It is a place to enjoy the pleasure of each other’s company in a living space that is one of timeless tranquility. A busy mill it may once have been, but its modern renovation has created a natural haven for visitors to enjoy. The contemporary deep blue kitchen comes with a Nespresso coffee machine and integrated appliances for easy holidaying.
Beautiful, rich linens, deep carpets and bold bedside lamps in the bedrooms coupled with a large walk-in shower in the main bathroom stand as statements of luxury of this exquisite apartment.
Northumberland is a place rich with history and Miller’s Loft certainly lives up to that in its own unique way.
