How to get here
By air, by road or by rail, here’s how to get to Northumberland
You can fly to Newcastle Airport or Edinburgh Airport from a number of UK destinations including Birmingham, Manchester, East Midlands, Norwich, Bristol, Southampton, London, Cardiff, Exeter, Newquay, Dublin, Belfast, Cook, Aberdeen and the Isle of Man. Newcastle and Edinburgh also have flights to and from major European destinations and direct flights from New York. Once you have arrived at the airport, you can hire a car from one of the numerous car rental companies based at either Newcastle or Edinburgh.
Guests wishing to travel by rail can use London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and CrossCountry. Both these services stop at Newcastle, with some trains also stopping at Berwick and Alnmouth. If you choose to alight at Newcastle, you can either hire a car and then drive to your Retreat or take the commuter train with Northern Rail to Chathill (ideally positioned for our Tughall Steads properties). For a list of taxi companies which serve Alnmouth, Chathill and Berwick stations, see here.
If you are travelling north, you will need to join the A1, driving past the iconic Angel of the North and Newcastle and then follow the instructions on your arrival details. Heading southbound from Scotland, likewise join the A1. From the west, take the A69 and A66 through Hadrian’s Wall country. Details of how to get to your chosen Retreat will appear in your account two weeks prior to your stay.
