How to get here

By air, by road or by rail, here’s how to get to Northumberland

By Plane

You can fly to Newcastle Airport or Edinburgh Airport from a number of UK destinations including Birmingham, Manchester, East Midlands, Norwich, Bristol, Southampton, London, Cardiff, Exeter, Newquay, Dublin, Belfast, Cook, Aberdeen and the Isle of Man. Newcastle and Edinburgh also have flights to and from major European destinations and direct flights from New York. Once you have arrived at the airport, you can hire a car from one of the numerous car rental companies based at either Newcastle or Edinburgh.

By Train

Guests wishing to travel by rail can use London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and CrossCountry. Both these services stop at Newcastle, with some trains also stopping at Berwick and Alnmouth. If you choose to alight at Newcastle, you can either hire a car and then drive to your Retreat or take the commuter train with Northern Rail to Chathill (ideally positioned for our Tughall Steads properties). For a list of taxi companies which serve Alnmouth, Chathill and Berwick stations, see here.

By Car

If you are travelling north, you will need to join the A1, driving past the iconic Angel of the North and Newcastle and then follow the instructions on your arrival details. Heading southbound from Scotland, likewise join the A1. From the west, take the A69 and A66 through Hadrian’s Wall country. Details of how to get to your chosen Retreat will appear in your account two weeks prior to your stay.

Arrivals and departures

Arrival time is 4pm (3pm from November to Easter – low season) and check out is 10am. We will inform you on your arrival day if your cottage is ready before the usual advertised time. If you have specific needs, please ask and we will try to accommodate your request if at all possible.

Pet Policy

We have a small number of cottages which accept a well-beached dog. If you wish to bring a dog an additional charge of £30 will be added to your booking. We also ask that guests bringing pets adhere to our Pet Terms and Conditions.

What’s included?

All of the cottages in our collection bear our signature style and attention to detail. The facilities vary from place to place, as they are all privately owned, so please check if something is vital to you. However, all are exceptionally well-equipped, and many come with a host of extras. Please see our What’s included list and your chosen Retreat for items specific to that cottage.

Leisure Club Membership

The majority of our Retreats come with leisure club membership to the award-winning Ocean Club in Seahouses (exceptions are Waterfront and Tweedswood in the Borders, Quayside and The Nelson in Amble and The Old Paper Mill, County Durham). There is a small admission charge of £7 per adult, £3 per child and free for under 2s. Facilities include a 20-metre pool, children’s pool, gym, fitness studio, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, spa and cafe.
