A country meets coast cottage just outside of Beadnell in the hamlet of Swinhoe, Nook End has a timeless appeal. Its lounge, with beamed ceiling and log-burning stove, has doors leading out into the private sunny garden, and the fully fitted kitchen has enough room for six people to dine comfortably. There are some wonderful ‘nooks’ here that children will love like the under stairs chest packed with dressing up clothes, the galley-style bedroom and the communal garden with Wendy House, trampoline, table tennis and football goal, which is shared with neighbouring Retreats Driftwood and Seasalt. Please note that this garden will no longer be available to guests for holidays taking place after November 2021

From the garden, there are open countryside views to Bamburgh Castle and the coast is just one mile away at Beadnell beach.

Please note that the games room shown in the video tour is no longer available for use and there has also been some interior redecoration.

Reviews and Ratings
Our cottages are graded according to how stylish they are and how welcoming they are to children.

To assist you in finding the perfect place to stay, we have awarded our cottages a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum style rating. This is based on our own standards and the award is given according to a mixture of criteria - location, aesthetic appeal, standard of luxury, facilities offered and style factors.
For example, a Platinum award goes to our most stylish and all round exclusive properties and a Bronze award may go to a cottage that may be a little less refined in places but still meets the high standards necessary to fit into the collection.

It is suitable for children of all ages and includes a private garden, outdoor play equipment and the beach is just a 10-minute walk across the dunes.

Suitable for children of all ages. As well as toys in the cottage, the large shared garden has a football goal, trampoline, table tennis and a Wendy House, not to mention good old fashioned space to run around.

We pulled into the drive of our glorious home-away-from-home, Nook End. I cannot explain how wonderful this house was. It was gorgeously furnished, immaculately clean, completely kitted out, well insulated and spacious (and space isn't easy to find in the UK). We made a roaring fire every evening. We cooked dinner all seven nights at Nook End and enjoyed every minute of it. We did a dozen loads of laundry. Our host provided a welcome basket with milk, eggs, bread, butter, tea, coffee, and bubbly - all locally made. It even had a Christmas tree. But best of all, it was positively loaded with toys, dress-up clothes, books, travel cots, high chairs, etc for our girls. So many hotels/apartments/cottages in Europe claim to be child-friendly, and few rarely are. Thank you.

Nook End is beautiful. My parents came to stay with us for a couple of days and they were amazed at the standard of decor and facilities - they can now see why we love staying here!

Nook End feels like our home, we've been many times and its always lovely to see the changes you make and the improvements. The outdoor sofas were great and as the weather was great, we used them every day. See you next year!

Great service from start to finish from Coastal Retreats. We love Nook End. This is our third holiday at Swinhoe. Loved the little changes at the cottage especially the fabulous new ensuite shower room. How did you create that space from an old cupboard? Marvellous.

Our friends recommended Coastal Retreats to us and in particular the location of Swinhoe. We have young children and they felt we would be well set up for a great holiday in Nook End or the other two next door. We have just had a successful holiday at Nook End. Loved it. Next time we'll come back with friends and book the cottage along with Driftwood or Seasalt next door. We had a peek at both on changeover day and they too look like super cottages. Hard to choose which is the nicer. Thanks to our friends for putting us in touch with Coastal Retreats and thanks to you guys for helping us book and sorting out all of our questions and baby equipment needs.
