Smuggler's Hide

Smuggler's Hide has been in our collection from the start, but a recent renovation transformed it into an exciting, contemporary coastal cottage with bold colours perfectly offset by crisp white shutters and bed linen. Situated in a prime location opposite St Ebba’s Church in the centre of Beadnell village, this bijou newly-built stone-end terrace is in walking distance of Beadnell Beach and the village pubs and bistro.

Smuggler's Hide is situated in a small and exclusive corner of Beadnell village, formerly known as Smugglers Cove in the 18th century when Beadnell was a favourite haunt of smugglers, evading customs officers to bring rum and gin ashore. This three-bedroom end of terrace stone cottage is a far cry from its past now with its light and colourful interior. The dining area is stunning with floor to ceiling windows and a door leading to the front lawned garden and patio, while the corner four-seater sofa is great for snuggling in front of the log burner. At just a short walk from the beach, it is a favourote with couples and families. Booked with neighbouring The Bolthole, it can accommodate a party of up to nine guests.

See our Beadnell section for more information on the location.

Reviews and Ratings
Our cottages are graded according to how stylish they are and how welcoming they are to children.

To assist you in finding the perfect place to stay, we have awarded our cottages a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum style rating. This is based on our own standards and the award is given according to a mixture of criteria - location, aesthetic appeal, standard of luxury, facilities offered and style factors.
For example, a Platinum award goes to our most stylish and all round exclusive properties and a Bronze award may go to a cottage that may be a little less refined in places but still meets the high standards necessary to fit into the collection.

It is suitable for children of all ages and includes a private garden, toys and the beach is just a 10-minute walk away.

We had a fantastic week at Smuggler’s Hide! The cottage is very impressive – so modern and beautifully fitted out (much better equipped than home in fact!) – and we really loved Beadnell and the surrounding villages! The beaches are lovely and unspoilt and we had great weather which showed them off to the best advantage! I think we’ll certainly go back at some point and will certainly be recommending Coastal Retreats to our friends!

The property is beautifully furnished and was immaculately clean on arrival. The welcome bag was a lovely touch, thank you.

Great central location. Enjoyed having breakfast in the Saltwater café and supper in the Craster Arms. A really lovely holiday. Won't hesitate to recommend Coastal Retreats and our little Smugglers Hide home. We loved it.

Smuggler's is in a great location, the decor is fresh and unusual and our kids especially loved the spotty twin bedroom and the large TV.
