The Fold @ Rock
Rock village near Alnwick
Within four miles of the coast and only five miles from the market town of Alnwick with its famous castle, water gardens and country shops, this stone cottage with large garden in the village of Rock makes an ideal all year round holiday base.
The Fold is one of only 10 new properties to be given special permission to be built in this quiet conservation area estate village on the site of the former Home Farm steading, between the village cricket ground and the mill pond. Built in traditional Northumbrian style with local stone, it mixes the solidity of times gone by with a superior contemporary internal finish. It is set amongst similar newly built properties and conversions of the Blacksmith’s, The Old Sawmill and Joiner’s Shop, all part of the original Home Farm site.

Location
This historic estate village has been owned by the same family for over 200 years. It is a designated conservation area centering around Rock Hall ( now a small private preparatory school) and the Norman Church of St Philip and St James. To the north of the Fold you will find the village cricket ground, to the east the mill pond and further east, the sea. The Fold is a 10 minute drive from Alnwick market town which has become famous in recent years for its castle and the role it played in Harry Potter films. But the town has other buildings of historical interest, has a traditional market square with Farmer’s markets and food festivals held there and the increasingly visited Alnwick Gardens, the brainchild of the Duchess of Northumberland whose home is Alnwick Castle.
The village itself is surrounded by farmland and there are walks and trails for all ages from the door of The Fold. Of particular interest to some guests will be the pub in the neighbouring village of Rennington.
Please note, the satellite view shows the site of this cottage before it was built. The surrounding fields are still as they were.

Recommendations
The Fold will appeal to all ages and particularly anyone wanting to alternate between coastal and countryside activities as both are equally convenient. The quiet and safe location makes it an ideal family base and it can accommodate up to 2 families with the snug giving useful additional sitting room space. The 4th bedroom has two full sized single beds laid out in a L shape rather than side by side and so we recommend it as being more suitable for children than adults.
A group of adults would appreciate the walking opportunities from the doorstep and the benefit of a pub nearby
Children at The Fold
Definitely qualifying for our 5 starfish most child-friendly rating, this cottage is in a safe quiet cul-de-sac with a large garden and dedicated play equipment. Toys and a dressing up box are there to entertain younger guests and a high chair, travel cot (please bring your own cot linen) and steriliser are available on request.
Heating
There is full oil central heating and a logburner in the lounge.
Please note: Whilst we take great care to represent our properties and their facilities as accurately as possible, the décor, furnishings and facilities shown in images and video tours may occasionally be subject to minor change.
