The Fold is one of only 10 properties to be given special permission to be built in this quiet conservation area estate village on the site of the former Home Farm steading, between the village cricket ground and the mill pond. Built in traditional Northumbrian style with local stone, it mixes the solidity of times gone by with a superior contemporary internal finish. It is set amongst similar newly built properties and conversions of the Blacksmith's, The Old Sawmill and Joiner's Shop, all part of the original Home Farm site.

The real wood burner in the downstairs living area ensures you can visit anytime of the year, and the second snug room with TV creates a valued additional space for families holidaying together. Children will love the swings and Wendy House in its large garden, while the adults can relax and take in the distant sea views.

A new build stone semi in a cul de sac (in lovely rural location). It's not completely remote.


This house is a family owned holiday home and as such is unsuitable for holding large parties. Small gatherings are, of course, welcome but no ‘open house’ please. Tents, hot tubs and mobile homes on the property are not permitted. Please refer to our Large Group advice list for further information.

All of our Retreats are non-smoking.

Whilst we take great care to represent our properties and their facilities as accurately as possible, the décor, furnishings and facilities shown in images and video tours may occasionally be subject to minor change.


Terms and Conditions
This historic estate village has been owned by the same family for over 200 years. It is a designated conservation area centering around Rock Hall ( now a small private preparatory school) and the Norman church of St Philip and St James. To the north of The Fold you will find the village cricket ground, to the east the mill pond and further east, the sea. The Fold is a 10 minute drive from Alnwick market town which has become famous in recent years for its castle and the role it played in Harry Potter films. But the town has other buildings of historical interest, a traditional market square with farmer's markets and food festivals and the popular Alnwick Garden, the brainchild of the Duchess of Northumberland whose home is Alnwick Castle.

The village itself is surrounded by farmland and there are walks and trails for all ages from the door of The Fold. Of particular interest to some guests will be the pub in the neighbouring village of Rennington.

Please note, the satellite view shows the site of this cottage before it was built. The surrounding fields are still as they were.

For example, a Platinum award goes to our most stylish and all round exclusive properties and a Bronze award may go to a cottage that may be a little less refined in places but still meets the high standards necessary to fit into the collection.

The Fold has been perfect - beautifully decorated and furnished and in such a gorgeous setting with views across the fields, the coast and lighthouse. Every possible comfort was provided - lovely kitchen, cosy sitting room with wood burner and oodles of toys, books and games for the children.

This is our third stay at The Fold. It just suits our family needs very well and we always have such a great holiday. The kids love the garden. I love the snug room where I can sit on my own and read a book. Its comfy, cosy, stylish but quite traditional, very clean and in a great location for getting round the region. One day we'll be in Alnwick, the next on the beach in Embleton, the next up in Berwick walking the town walls. It's handy for the coast and inland destinations such as Cragside, The Cheviots etc We spent a day in Newcastle too and were surprised it was so close. Just 55 mins south. This was a super sunny day and we really enjoyed wandering the Quayside and browsing the Baltic and Sage.

This is the second time I have booked a Coastal Retreats cottage and both times I have found the quality of the accommodation to be first class. Although this is a pet friendly cottage, there is absolutely no evidence of any pet smells. I am allergic to dogs and cats and this was particularly impressive for me. The house was very clean and I was unable to detect any odours.

A spacious luxury house in a good location with a great garden for the children and so well equipped. We didn't bring the kitchen sink but everything was here for us and more. Well impressed.
