Let the romance begin…
Hetton Hall, near Belford
‘The perfect place to reconnect with ourselves and each other.’ Those were the words of a honeymoon couple that stayed at Rosebud this summer. And they couldn’t be more true. You’ll certainly be left in peace here with nothing but the surrounding countryside and the Northumberland National Park on your doorstep. The starry skies are mesmerising and the log burning fire will take off that winter chill.
Glororum, near Bamburgh
A beach view is always nice, but it would be a shame to miss out on the panoramic vistas of the Cheviot Hills, particularly the awesome sunsets, from the balcony of Skyfall. This elegant retreat is upside down living at is best, maximizing the views from the living space on the upper floor.
A fun family friendly pad in the summer, The Bolthole attracts couples off season mainly for its proximity to the beach, and the atmospheric coastal walk which can be enjoyed from Beadnell to Newton, where a spot of lunch can be enjoyed at the delightful The Ship Inn facing onto Newton beach before heading back. There’s also some wonderful eating choices within the village itself just minutes from The Bolthole, including The Saltwater Café and The Craster Arms.
Tughall Steads, between Beadnell and Newton
A rustic single storey studio cottage, The Forge is within a country setting, but has views of the coast. It reminds us of hideaways in romantic novels, or rural glamping but without the tent. The centrepoint of this bolthole is indeed its log burner, just steps from the bed, if you don’t fancy emerging from the covers. A stripped back affair, The Forge really does give you the opportunity to just be in the moment without any distractions.
The Lodge @ Shirewater
The Lodge is an independent wing of an early 20th century country house just 15 minutes from one of Northumberland’s best beaches, Embleton. Privacy and seclusion it has in spades, and what’s more it only accepts babies, so is free of the usual child paraphernalia that sometimes comes with holiday cottages, giving you the opportunity to totally unwind. Between the spacious accommodation and the five acres of woodland, river and orchard that surround The Lodge, you’ll truly feel like you’ve escaped.
