Best Retreats for Photographers
The camera loves Northumberland. There are literally dozens of iconic spots for any budding, amateur or professional to snap away at; add in those hidden places that the locals keep true and you have more than enough material to fill a week’s holiday.
Here are our best Retreats from which you can capture some of these landscapes:
Waterfront, Berwick upon Tweed
Professional Photographer Ben Pipe stayed here last winter. His atmospheric shots of the mouth of the River Tweed are hauntingly beautiful. In his blog, he praises Northumberland for its unspoilt coastline and the fact that you have many of the key photographic locations to yourself out of season. Waterfront lends itself to photographers as from the living area you have wide, open panoramic views from which you can capture dramatic seascapes, alluring sunsets and the beauty of the dawn.
With an iconic historic castle on its doorstep, Bamburgh Six cannot fail to impress. You can capture this historic building in different lights and at different times of the day all from your garden. What more can we say.
Skyfall, near Bamburgh
The superb sky views earned this house its name. From its first floor balcony off the main living area, the views of the Cheviot Hills in the Northumberland National Park will whet any photographer’s appetite. Set up the tripod on the balcony and let the camera tell the story. From the front there are long range castle and coast views.
Both these places have an iconic building and an awe-inspiring coastline readily in front of them. Dunstanburgh Castle sits just to the north and the rocky Craster shoreline practically laps at the cottage doors. At the other side of Dunstanburgh you will also find Embleton Bay – a beautiful deserted beach.
And if you’re not a photographer…
Then the choice is yours. Pick whichever Retreat you want and book in for some private tuition or portraits with any of these excellent Northumberland professionals.
