Christmas and New Year Retreats
All our Retreats are festively styled from the beginning of December and we provide our complimentary hampers with a seasonal twist for bookings including Christmas Day. For a group getaway, North Star House is a Christmas present in itself. From Christmas movies in the entertainment room to a showstopping festive lunch in the high end open plan kitchen, dining space, this Retreat sleeps 12 and is situated in the heart of Bamburgh village for pubs, restaurants and the beach. We’d also recommend Duneside House (sleeps 10) in Beadnell and Moo House (sleeps 12) in Tughall Steads, near Newton.
If you’re a couple looking to sneak away this Christmas and have a blissful break for two then Skyfall, near Bamburgh is enticingly warm and festive, with a sumptuous bedroom and a chic but cosy lounge – perfect for lazy days or relaxing after wintry walks. Also see The Lodge@Shirewater in Embleton and The Old Paper Mill in County Durham.
For families, Driftwood is a relaxed and easy getaway for those who want that cosy, warm feeling Christmas at home creates but want to escape their bricks and mortar this year. Heaps of DVDs, board games and a feature log burner make days hanging out at the cottage simpler while the outdoor play area is ideal for kids to let off steam. Families will also love Craster Retreat (sleeps 8) and The Wood Store (sleeps 6) in Tughall Steads, near Newton.
Christmas and New Year start dates 2019
This year, due to Christmas and New Year falling midweek, we are able to accept bookings for short breaks as well as seven nights or longer. Our Christmas breaks start on either Friday, December 20 or Monday, December 23. For New Year, you can arrive on Friday, December 27 or Monday, December 30.
For Christmas and New Year 2020, we will be taking seven night bookings only, starting Monday 21st or Monday 28th December.
Get into the festive spirit and establish a new tradition with a Christmas market weekend break this November or December. Ideal for picking up some unusual gifts or decorations for your home, as well as marking the countdown to Christmas with a glass of mulled wine.
From November to December 19, our Retreats are at their low season prices, so it is an ideal time to enjoy some relaxation or perhaps gather a group of friends for a pre-Christmas meet up rather than squeezing or your festive socialising into the last few weeks of December.
Some of the best Christmas markets in the North East are Newcastle Christmas Market (November 16 – December 31), Edinburgh Christmas Market (November 16 – January 5) and Durham’s Christmas Festival (November 29 – December 1).
Christmas and New Year dining
Our food partner, Food Heaven, can deliver all your festive food and drink to your Retreat and unpack it before your arrival so you don’t have the hassle of thinking about groceries when you are away. We also have a number of recommended chefs who can cook for you in the comfort of your Retreat.
