Description

Call it 'glamping', call it 'glamavanning' - whatever the term, this is no ordinary holiday cottage.

Huge, it is not, but tucked into a quiet corner of this coastal farm steading, this cannily renovated couple's retreat - the former Blacksmith's forge - has charm, character and romance in spade-loads.

This intimate hideaway, bijou in style, incorporates carefully thought out space-saving design, managing to offer full kitchen facilities, a king-sized bed, bathroom and log burner with cosy seating. With characterful features reminiscent of its past, this old stone single-storey cottage has a vaulted ceiling and exposed roof trusses which give the place height and a feeling of spaciousness despite its cosy proportions. Its king size bed is snuggled into an alcove off the lounge area, there’s a separate bathroom, a small dining table and a generous private garden with countryside views. It may be small, but it is big on detail, offering couples or solo travellers a unique stay.

  • Think Shepherd's Hut...think 'Glamping', but without the canvas and with a whole lot more of the 'glam'

Candid Comments

This is an old forge with all the quirkiness of an old building. Make no mistake, the space is compact (limited/hardly any storage space for personal items so travel light), the space on either side of the bed is tight, but it's well planned and full of cosy character. The space is more suitable for two smaller dogs. The laundry facilities are not in the cottage itself but in the adjacent stone outbuilding shared with a neighbouring cottage. If you like space then this cottage isn't for you!

Whilst we take great care to represent our properties and their facilities as accurately as possible, the décor, furnishings and facilities shown in images and video tours may occasionally be subject to minor change.

Due to the limited space, The Forge is only suitable for a young baby.

Reviews

A perfect little space for my holiday solo in Northumberland. It felt like home straight away.

Past Customer,

We were prepared for a small cottage. We weren't prepared to be blown away by this gorgeous little hideaway. We loved it!

Past Customer,

Clean and well presented. We felt very safe. Its been a super holiday for us with our little dog. The weather was super for Sept and we made the most of the outside picnic table.

Past Customer,

The Forge cottage was comfortably furnished with quality fabrics & fittings and with everything we needed. Lovely bedding and towels and a comfortable bed. The complementary bag of goodies was lovely, and stocked with excellent and useful products. The information file for the local area was really useful too.

Past Customer,

Compact and comfy. Good central location. Really like Tughall Steads as a location. Everyone is friendly in the nearby cottages and its nice to have people about, but at night the place is dark and peaceful. The stars are amazing. We spent a few evenings just sitting in the garden with our bottle of wine, star gazing.

Past Customer,

You are known for your high standard of cottages and the way you look after your guests. We loved the Forge. It did exactly what it said on the tin (the website). Ideal for us for a late summer weekend. The dog loved the garden and we loved the log fire and the whole unusual look and feel of The Forge. Yes its small but for three nights, it was perfect. My husband is 6ft and he didn't feel it was too small for him and we slept like logs.

Past Customer,

Location

The hamlet of Tughall Steads is a collection of converted stone farm buildings and is mainly holiday homes. The houses are surrounded by open countryside and a five minute drive will take you to the beach at either Beadnell or Newton by the Sea. It is ideally situated for access to Bamburgh to the north and Craster to the south. It is located near to our other cottages Garden Cottage and The Smithy.
If you happen to look at Tughall Steads on Google Earth, please note that the apparent 'airstrip' shown nearby was last used in 1948!
For further information on the area, see our Tughall Steads section.
