Three dog friendly holiday cottages for groups

Published: Wednesday 8th Aug 2018

We know group get togethers are certainly not the same if you have to leave part of your family behind, but these three Retreats all welcome dogs and are places that you will equally love. They all have large gardens, great entertaining spaces and are in walking distance, or just a short car journey, from the coast.

The Fold@Rock – Rock, near Alnwick

Guests can’t get enough of the view of the coast from the garden of this country-style house for eight. It certainly is the perfect place to soak up some peace and quiet, while your dog enjoys racing around the large lawned area and the children play on the swings. Surrounded by farmland, there are numerous walks and trails from The Fold for easy morning walks while The Horsehoes Inn in Rennington is just a 20-minute walk away if you fancy a pint in the evening. Dogs are welcome in the beer garden and fresh water is provided for them.

The Fold is a great year-round holiday cottage with a log burner if the evenings are cool and a second lounge room – great for accommodating the differing activities of your large party, if necessary. Beadnell Beach is just a short drive away, as are some of the major attractions at Alnwick.

Coastguard’s Cottage – Craster

This rustic cottage for eight in the centre of Craster village is the place for a carefree holiday. The open plan living space lends itself to socialising with the kitchen at its heart; perfect for chatter and laughter filled meal times. Craster village has an old world charm to it with its traditional smokery and atmospheric walk to the ruins of 18th century Dunstanburgh Castle. This, however, is punctuated with an excellent gastro pub and seafood restaurant, offering some of the best dining out in this area. The gastro pub welcomes dogs and has excellent views of the coast from its beer garden. Back at Coastguard’s there are some equally top views of the harbour from the garden, which also doubles as a great dog-friendly space.

Beadnell Beach House – Beadnell

This relaxed family and friends Retreat is in one of the best locations for those holidaying with dogs as it has steps down to the sands at Smuggler’s Cove and is just a short walk to Beadnell Beach and the coastal path north or south. Dog owners will also appreciate the large enclosed patio area for those times when you are tired out but your dog isn’t. In walking distance for food and drink there is The Craster Arms pub with its designated dog-friendly area in the bar and the Saltwater Café, which welcomes dogs until 5pm. Beadnell Beach House sleeps 10/12 across four bedrooms and has an open plan living, dining and kitchen area and an additional lounge on the first floor with a balcony looking directly out onto the sea. There are so many different spaces to relax here, that it is made for those holidaying in a group.
